Blog challenge # 22

Write about something you did during summer that kids today-for better or for worse-probably don't do anymore.

We pretty much just were kids, rode bike, went fishing, played ball, played tree tag, marbles, kick the can, just the normal stuff that kids did way back then. We left the house first thing in the morning and had to be home at noon to eat lunch. There was the fire whistle that went off at noon so there were no excuses about being late. There was also a 5:00 whistle that went off so we knew when to be home for supper. After waiting 1/2 hour after eating, and we had a digtal clock on the tv, so there was no way of leaving early, we went outside to play until 8 or 9 o'clock. Our parents didn't have to worry about us, they knew pretty much where we were and didn't have to worry about someone kidnapping us.

Suzanne's challenge #21

When in your life have you been most afraid? Write about how it made you feel and how your fear was resolved.

There are actually two that I can think of but probably the one that made me the most afraid was when Todd was a baby and got spinal meningitis. We had to put him in the hosptial and they didn't know what was wrong with him at first and had to do tests. I tried watching while they tried and tried to get an IV started. After several attempts on his little arms (he was only 10 months old) they ended up cutting into his ankle and putting an IV in there. His foot looked like it was in a cast. I could hear him screaming and I was just crying and crying. The Dr. called at 11:00 that night and when I heard the Dr.'s voice that late at night, I thought my baby had died. My legs were so whobbly that I had to sit down, I swear my heart stopped. The Dr. just called to say there had been no change and he was still holding his own.

The Dr. called the next morning to ask permission to perform a spinal tap as they suspected he had spinal meningitis. Since I didn't really know what that was, I wasn't as afraid as I should have been. I went to the hospital and that is what he ended up having. The Dr. told me that they have saved children who had this before, and I swear, I almost fainted thinking that I could lose my little baby.

Todd ended up getting well very quickly and being very spoiled by all of the nurses at the hospital. All of us, even his sister, who was afraid she was going to lose her little brother was happy when he came home.

BIG wind that went through on Sat

I almost went to the basement, so it was really more than a big wind.

We lost 1/2 of one of our old trees. I found a lot of Todd's leftovers from when he had a tree house up in there.

Suzanne's Blog challenge # 20

A scout is: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. All at once too! Which word from that list are you the most? Which the least? Write about it.

I am having a hard time with this one, but I think the one word that best describes me would be loyal. Both at home, work and with my family that is one trait that holds true, probably second would be thrifty, although my family and husband say it is called "cheap." The least for me would be clean, and by clean I mean my house. I try to keep it clean but it is by far the least important thing in my life. I can find lots of other things to keep me busy and occupied rather than constantly cleaning a house. Don't get me wrong, we don't live in a pig pen but I am sure I could do a whole lot better. Second on the list is brave, I am a big ole chicken and I will be the first to admit it. Don't need to dwell anymore on the brave part either.

My jiggle card

Instead of throwing away the package my Provo Craft eyelets came in, I recycled it and turned it into a jiggle card.
